I want to record myself using my computer mic, but the program that comes with Windows only records for 60 seconds. Is there any freeware out there for recording longer sound files? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I use Audacity, though some have problems with it--it is available in the various platforms. It is freeware, and by also installing Lame (there is a link to download it, at the Bersirc site), you can save the files as MP3.
Many people like Goldwave, but it's not freeware.
For some reason, you can only record a short clip with Windows Recorder, but by recording and recording again, you can extend the length.

Cool Edit
Hi,
The best free windows audio software around use to be Cool Edit.
Unfortunately it has been bought by Adobe and they now charge
US$299.00 for it.
However softpedia has not yet removed the "Cooledit pro" download link at Metropolitan, it's still working

Re: Cool Edit
Unfortunately, it is an eval license only, which expires after 21 days unless you purchase a valid license...MarcusR wrote:Hi,

- Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.
I can't even get the Cooledit to download. Glad I did not spend too much time on it!
