Fiddle resources

Post by chrisoff »

My brother got a fiddle last year but has never gotten round to learning how to play it. His excuse is that he can't afford lessons so I thought I'd ask my learned friends here if they knew of any free sites on the net that can get him started?

Failing that I think some lessons may be a good christmas present for him.

A lot of stuff on this site is about bluegrass or old time American fiddling, but not all of it. There's a lot to be learned anyway... there are lessons, the "fiddletube" videos, and a nice forum.

That looks great. Thanks! Hopefully that should give him some good ideas to get started. I'll pass it on.

Chris --

Fiddle's great fun, but not so easy to learn on your own. A few lessons would probably save a lot of time, especially in the early (or "I can't believe how bad this thing sounds") stage, since there's a lot about the physical aspect of playing that just isn't intuitively obvious. I think providing the fees for a set of starter lessons would be a great gift. And it's not a bad idea to have a pro look over the set-up of the instrument and bow.

Here's another forum to check out:
