Pipes missing!

Post by john mcsherry »

Hi fellow pipers,
I'm in a bit of a panic at the moment. I've just returned from a gig in Zaragoza/Spain where my pipes went missing. I'm basically playing a waiting game and am unable to work until they show up. I would very much appreciate it if you could keep a keen eye out for them and if you have any information regarding their whereabouts please contact me at info@johnmcsherry.com

Below is a description of the pipes:

A full set of African blackwood concert D uilleann pipes made by Dave
Williams with a keyless boxwood chanter made by Sean McAloon.
The words "Made for John McSherry by Dave Williams, 2000" are engraved
on the brass around the stock and one of the tenor regulator keys and
mount is broken off.

Also missing are two Overton low whistles (D and F)

Cheers
John

We'll keep an eye out for them John... I don't feel that the pipes are going to be tough to recognize.

Cheers Joseph,
I know, they should be easily recognisable but it's now into the 4th day of being mising and I'm not holding my breath. I just hope the person who has them isn't some sort of fiend who could just cast them into a river or something. :(

I hope not either. I think who ever took them, probably knew what they were and whose, and it may be some time before they surface, waiting for things to cool off first. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hi John
I know how your feeling, my pipes were stolen in Cork a few years ago, I got them back after ten days of extreme anxiety! If they turn up anywhere near my workshop I'll know them straight away. So don't give up hope, I'm sure they will turn up, its just when.

I know a Spanish fiddle player who played Irish trad with us here in Sweden. She plays with a band in Madrid, Nemo, and is well into the trad music scene in Spain, she knows many of the musicians and people into bagpipes there. I'll tell her to keep an eye out and her ears open regarding your pipes. I'm guessing they will turn up - don't lose hope

I will keep my eyes open too. Dave Williams work is fairly distinctive even without the engraving. Good luck.

Hopefully you wont have as long of a wait as Gabriel McKeagney. The guy that took his pipes laid low for over a year.

Terrible news! The worst feeling in the world, I'm sure. Will keep an ear to the ground. Best of luck!

Well, I'm galician, not spanish, but I'm looking for your pipes around folk circles in Spain and galician summer celtic & trad. festivals.
Where did you loose the pipes? City, airport...?

Hi John

While your onto it you may like to contact Ebay and other online auctioneers; just in case the lowlife decides to sell them on Ebay. Give them a description of the instrument so that they can notify you if it is posted up on the site for auction. This has happened in the past and they notified the UK Police who arrested the culprit and returned the instrument. Meanwhile is there any pipemaker out there who might be willing to lend John a set?

Hopefully the culprit is caut and the set returned.

Cheers L42B :( :x

Sorry for your loss John but hang tight.
If it's any consolation I dont think I've heard of any set of pipes that was taken that wasn't returned to it's owner.

I'll be keeping a look out this side of the ocean anway.

Hang in there me aul flower.
Tommy.
