Anyone know who this piper is?

A forum about Uilleann (Irish) pipes and the surly people who play them.

Anyone know who this piper is?

Was browsing Youtube for Irish music and came across this. It says in the beginning it takes place in Kilrush in 1963. Anyone have an idea as to who the piper in the band is? You get a good shot of him playing about 44 sec in.

That's the Laictin Naoifa Ceiliband

Among others: Junior Crehan's, Michael Downes, Paddy Galvin playing fiddles, Jimmy Ward playing the banjo. JC Talty is playing the flute, Angela Merry (usually their bass player) plays the whistle (I think), Michael Falsey is playing the pipes. JC Talty, Martin Talty and Willie Clancy also were pipers with the Laictin Naoifa.

If I remember correctly, that bit of film is on the RTÉ VHS Come West Along the Road; not to be confused with the RTÉ DVD of the same title, which has different material.

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.

It was on CWatR, for some seasons a fragment was on the introduction.
FWIW, Michael Falsey is still playing, JC is still at the flute but most of the rest are gone, most recently Paddy Galvin who died well into his 90s.
