Post by flanum »

News just recieved
Quote from thession.org

"The death has taken place of Micheal O'Domhnaill, one of the foremost figures in folk and traditional music.

He died suddenly at his Dublin home. He was 54.

A native of Co Meath, he was a former member of the Bothy Band."

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Gone all too soon.

His backup playing was a first influence to me, and I'm sure to many others, too.

I'm totally gobsmacked. He and his clan were pivotal in my appreciation of Irish music. His contribution will live on forever.

Very sad news. He was one of my heros, through his connection with the bothy band , and therefore one of the reasons I play this great music. Thank you Micheal.

An absolute tragedy.
His guitar playing was at the heart and soul of the Bothy Band and completely changed the way the guitar is perceived in ITM.

He will never be forgotten.

Slan,
D.
It plays with RealPlayer. It's a two-minute news report which shows short clips of him with Skara Brae and the Bothies, including a bit of singing, and there's a short tribute from his friend Paddy Glackin.

May his soul fly free and may he enjoy the fact that he now knows what the rest of us are still guessing at.

I started a Wikipedia article about him this morning. A small contribution to his memory.
