Motorist caught playing flute at 80mph (Reuters)

I whistle and drive all the time...but not at these speeds! But then again, I'm relatively new.

Motorist caught playing flute at 80mph

BERLIN (Reuters) - German police have caught a man playing the flute with both hands as he sped through traffic at 130 kph (80 mph) on a busy highway.

"He was leaning back in the seat and steering the car with his knees and feet," said Johann Bohnert, a spokesman for police in the town of Traunstein near the Austrian border. "He looked like he'd had practice." He now faces a fine of 50 euros (35.2 pounds).

The 52-year-old from Salzburg in Austria, birthplace of Mozart, the composer whose works include the opera "The Magic Flute", told police he was not actually blowing the instrument. "He said he was just practising fingerings," said Bohnert.

A State Patrolman once passed me on a lonely stretch of highway while I was playing the whistle and steering with the knee. He never even noticed. That Austrian guy should have put his foot down!

I steer with the knee a lot while traveling on the freeways, it's more stable. With todays quick-action steering, the car tends to wander more with just the hands. (I know Dale's going to hate this) :D

From a Reuters report of a month or so ago::

'A court in Cologne fined a man who admitted he was having sex with a hitchhiker when he drove his car into a road sign, but only because he fled the scene.

(...)[a spokesman said:]'It's hard to believe, but in fact no law was broken with the intercourse on the motorway. It is a situation that the lawmakers never thought about.'

The man, 23, was also ordered to pay €400 to repair the road sign he had damaged."

This is one scary-ass thread. I was driving to Buffalo one day to pick up a load of stained glass and some guy passed me in the fast lane doing some gawd-awful speed...and he was reading a newspaper.

If you have to stop fast and you are playing the whistle...well you can imagine for yourself. :o

No need to imagine it for yourself -- it's all been laid out for you!
