Chords for The Hungry Rock (by Dervish)

Post by bayswater »

Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you have the chords for The Hungry Rock (by Dervish)? I'm a flute player myself, but was hoping to persuade a friend of mine who plays the guitar to give it a go. But it seems pretty tricky?!

In case you don't know it - you can hear it at: (not sure if it's quite in tune here, though):

(press the blue play button in the middle of the screen)

Hope you can help me out. It's a killer tune!

Best wishes,
Brian

For any who want to help, it's also on your Wooden Flute Obsession volume 1. Composed by Liam Kelly & Michael Holmes, originally from Dervish "Playing With Fire". Short clip at http://worldtrad.org/WFO_CD2.htm

Thanks for the dots - where are they from? Looks slightly different from thesession.org

Brian, I see you've been looking for a long time. Interesting that his bouzoukis are from California. Have you tried emailing Michael - his address info at http://www.dervish.ie/michael.htm

Oh, also found Bouzouki GDAD + Mandoline tabs at http://banwarth.free.fr/tablatures.htm . The file is http://banwarth.free.fr/hungryrock.zip

BTW, John Doyle does a rocking version on his "Evening Comes Early" CD.

Sorry! I've been meaning to respond to your post for ages now. Here's what I've got. Bear in mind that Dervish tune a half-step sharp usually, so put a capo on your first fret before playing with the cd.

Intro:

|: F#m |D |E |C#m :|

|: Em | Bm/G |Em | Bm |Em | Bm/G | Em | Bm/G :|
|: D | G Em | D | G A| D | G Em | Bm | G A :|
|: Em | Em | Em | Bm | Em | Em | A | A G:|

Break:

|: F#m |D |E |C#m :| Repeat lots of times, then
Bm| (Bm) A| to second part of tune

The Bm/G in the first part could also be a GM7 I guess. What gives the chord its character is the G-F# close interval in the bass.

Thanks a lot to you both for your input. We will try the "upgraded" chords (yours :-)) next time.

Thanks again!

BTW, Ro3b - once again - killer tracks in your signature. It sounds like thriller movie music?! (the last one, that is) :)

Oh - and another thing - would you happen to have some chord suggestions for "On the Strand" (http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/3894) as well?

"Composed by Emer Mayock and played ferociously by her on her "Playground" CD."

Another killer new tune! I love it, although it's pretty hard to play :)

All the best!
