Traditional Quantz playing.

Post by I.D.10-t »

Can anyone point to a traditional Quantz style baroque flute recording?
I really don't care if it it is in A415 or 440, I just want to hear the playing style.

Really, it would be nice to hear the same tune played in modern style and baroque, but I do not know if that has been done.

Not sure what you mean by 'traditional Quantz style baroque flute'. A copy of a Quantz flute or simply a traverso at 415 Hz or 392 Hz?

You can easily find the 12 Fantasies (Telemann) in both baroque version (Barthold Kuijken, Jed Wentz) and modern version (Jean-Pierre Rampal). Same with the Handel Sonatas for flute.
Both sets of pieces have probably been released on recorder too.

Really, its never been done, and that's because Edison didn't invent the phonograph until long after the demise of the original Baroque era. :-D

Dude, haven't you ever heard of time travel? Just bring your mini-disc and go back to the Baroque era.

Mr. Peabody: "Sherman, set the way back machine for 1752, we are going to record some music."

That Mary Oleskiewicz CD is wonderful. Quantz music on Quantz flutes. Beautiful huge sound. I don't have the others, but they sure have good players in them.

Yeah, the flute on that recording really does have a big sound. It was made by Jean-François Beaudin. He's also done some work with adapting a one-key to work in more modern settings, creating a sort of Boehm-bore baroque-bansuri hybrid :P ... there's a PDF of the English-language article here, and a clip of Masahiro Arita and some pictures here. Looks very interesting, though definitely not yr usual "baroque flute" sound.
