Why is Bothy so Pricey?

Post by straycat82 »

I've had the "best of" Bothy Band record for a while now and would like to get some more of their stuff but I can't seem to find anything new or used for under $40. Anyone know why they cost so much?

Well, most of them are cheaper but 1975 the first album is listed as $2150.00!

This is a re-release if you don't have to own the original vinyl.

Oh, I see that at the above website it says it's a CD. I don't know why it would be 2150.00. Maybe it's a mistake. I know others have brought this up, but I thought it was just for the original vinyl recordings. Could be wrong. Anyway, if you look around I think you'll find them all at reasonable prices.

Is this a CD or vinyl? It doesn't specify in the listing. I would have assumed it was a cd but your post about vinyl confused me.

no doubt a misplaced decimal point, if you email Margaret Tice at Tayberry i'm sure she'd clear that up.

otherwise, Ossian's got it for $20

Sorry, for confusing things. This is a CD. A re-release. I edited my first response. I thought the 2150.00 recording must be vinyl and a collector's item or something. It says it is a CD too. So I can't explain that.

Thanks very much guys! I just placed an order. I'd still be curious though if anyone knows the reason why they are so expensive normally.

Thanks again for the links.

This is the thread of the last discussion I remember on this topic. I haven't re-read it, so it might not answer your question at all or be of interest. I'm just putting it here just in case you want to skim through it. There is a little historical discussion of the group and a cool photo if I remember correctly.

LP's seem to be easy enough to find and for pretty cheap but the CD's, not so much. The LP's are on ebay pretty regularly.

And to think that I paid $4.00 for the Old Hag album back in the day. There are many good source for Cd's now. I think I picked up my CD copies of the Bothy albums for around $18 at Irish on Grand, here in St. Paul MN.

Green Apple books in San Francisco has some early Bothy Band stuff on vinyl. I think it's the first two albums rereleased as a double or something. I don't recall the price.
