Interlaced fingering position for Irish Whistle...

Post by anniemcu »

Did you know that it is true Irish Tradition to start playing the whistle with your hands interlaced? The index fingers cover the top two holes, the middle fingers cover the next two, and the ring fingers covering the bottom two holes.

I have this on good authority. :)

(don't comment until I get this armor laced...)

I thought everyone plays whistle that way. I know I do.

The interlaced stretch is difficult on medium or large barrels. This is why, for millenia, the Irish primitives whistled on nothing larger than a high D shin bone.

I'd like to see this done on a low D.
In fact, I'd like to see this done on a high G whistle.

Sounds like a party trick to me. :)

I tried it on a low D. It's un-possible for me.

I can play a couple of songs really slowly on a sop D this way. It looks really cool.

Annie, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you! I just know how I'm gonna be spending this evening.

If I don't post tomorrow it will probably be because I can't untie my fingers. :D
