Advice in making/purchasing combing tool

Post by earthjig »

Hello to all,

I'm desperately seeking for a combing tool for my pipes.
I've seen some videos illustrating how to comb, but it isn't clear to me how the tool is made.

Therefor, I'd like to ask if someone could explain me how to make such a tool, or even better where to buy one (preferably in Europe).

Thank you.

A thread chaser works well e.g. http://www.tracytools.com/specials/thread-chasers3

Not much in uilleann pipes. Commonly used in GHB. Perhaps this should be moved to the appropriate forum.

Actually it isn't necessary a GHB standard.

So far I've seen these decorative stripes on GHB, asturian and galician gaita and even on UP.

Combing tools are used to provide a quick way to create those little parrallel lines on the wood that help the Binding thread to stay in place. Lots of places for their use on UPs.

It can also be used as a decorative aspect on mounts or other parts.
