Estate Auction Pipes - with pictures
I picked up a lot of old piping paraphernalia today. Can I get some help on I.d.'s please. Only the Scottish pipes are marked. Seth Hamon

John G Mc Auliffe, please contact me. I just got an email from you about your Taylor pipes that you say are identical to my pipes above, but you didn't leave a return email on the contact form you used on my website.
Thanks, Seth

- Tell us something.: I am interested in the uilleann pipes and their typical -and broader- use. I have been composing and arranging for the instrument lately. I enjoy unusual harmonic combinations on the pipes. I use the pipes to play music of other cultures.

I would suggest Taylor-style (inspired) pipes...

Re: Estate Auction Pipes - with pictures
David Quinn said they may possibly be Taylor's as some of the turnings look promising, but he can't say with 100% certainty without more information. I'm going to send him more upclose pictures when I get home. I've already been contacted by a guy that says they are identical to a set of Taylor's that he has. I assure you I will continue to research and talk to the experts and I'll give you guys a final result when I get one. One thing is for sure, these are old and the ivory is very aged. The antique appraiser at the auction said the ivory dated the set to the mid to late 1800's. Sethtommykleen wrote:I would suggest Taylor-style (inspired) pipes...

It looks to me like the regulator keys have had extra wide touches soldered to more normal Taylor ribbon keys, possibly by the original maker, which, to me, has every indication of being Taylor. Their signature elements and treatments appear all over the set.

Re: Estate Auction Pipes - with pictures
Well Ted Anderson has just posted on my Facebook page and he thinks they are made by Taylor and not copies. So far I've got promising replies from three experts. One Taylor owner that contacted me said his Taylor set has laminated keys too. Apparently their we're three sets made this way by the Taylor Brothers. Thanks for another good affirmation from Ted if your reading this. I was told by an expert in the field to stay away from opinions on this forum but its all in fun. It's ok as I like them regardless of whether or not they are true Taylors, but a few Taylor owners are emailing me and saying that they are Taylor's, for what it's worth. Seth

Re: Estate Auction Pipes - with pictures
Yea, they wouldn't as I'm being told by a Taylor owner with an identical set that they only made 3 sets with keys like these. His name is John G Mc Auliffe, and the other set was owned by James C Mc Auliffe who is shown here http://clanmcauliffe.com/famous/james.htmltommykleen wrote:Well, the reg keys do not look like Taylor for sure.

He thinks the set I have is the third set. Oddly he lives really close to where I got the set.
More later, Seth

I won't mention names, probably already said too much, but it's all in fun. I have no reason not to accept any info or help I receive on this forum. Everyone has been very nice but with any forum their are always folks that don't know what they are talking about and I'm one of them when it comes to Taylor stuff because I know very little about them but I'm learning quickly and talking to owners of these pipes through email. Im enjoying the research, debate if any, and looking forward to the outcome. Ive been told to look for a dovetail in the reg tabs so ill do that as soon as i get home and unpack but I've also read in the Sean Reid article by Quinn that not all were dovetailed if I remember correctly. I'm still reading the article. Anyways, I'll let you guys know for sure when I find out. Thanks again to everyone who took the time to reply and those owners who have contacted me privately. Seth
