San Francisco Pipers' Club Tionol- Registration Now Open
The San Francisco Pipers' Club Tionol will be held Feb. 15-17. All events will be in Berkeley. We have "The Best Pipers in the West" as instructors; Patrick D'Arcy (Los Angeles), Todd Denman (San Francisco), Tom Creegan (Seattle), plus special guest Patrick Sky from North Carolina. Patrick Sky will be doing reed classes, along with Ted Anderson.
The concert will be at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley and will include the guest instructors plus others. Registration is $75 for the tionol plus $20 for the concert. Tickets for the concert can be purchased directly from the Freight and Salvage ahead of time, or at the door. Come to learn, but mostly come for the great craic. The guest pipers will also do a demonstration for all attendees showing their varied approaches to a tune or two, with questions and remarks from the class.
Registration can be sent to Ted Anderson, PO Box 169, Tomales, CA 94971. More information, including lodging options can soon be found at the club website; sfpipersclub.org. Check back, as more info. will be added. Pick up from either San Francisco or Oakland airports can be arrainged by contacting Ted as a PM to Ted on C&F. All pipers of any level are encouraged to attend. This promises to be a great event. The parties and sessions are fantastic. The classes are in a relaxed atmosphere and geared to different levels of experience. At this time, classes for other instruments are not included, due to space constraints.
The San Francisco Pipers' Club Tionol was the first to be held in modern times in the US, having begun in 1979.

Hey Ted,
What happened to Louise Mulcahy? I was really excited to see her come to the Tionol? Just curious.
See you there. Richard

We were excited too! Due to an error I made in her visa application, it was held up, making getting the visa in time questionable. Too big a gamble to get it in time, so we had to cancel her.

This looks like a fantastic event, Ted. The Staff is top-notch. If I weren't up to my neck in it already that week, I'd be there in a heartbeat!

I would love to be able to take your reed-making class Ted, but unfortunately it's not going to happen this year. Hopefully in the future.

Ted, I'm planning on attending...I hope I don't overdose....I'll be attending the Celtic Arts Foundation Winter School for SSP & Fiddles in WA, the end of the January. BTW I took my first lesson on the UP last Sunday, I hope I can do more then the the scale by February.

Hey Ted - How does the Piper's Chair work? We have not had one in the SE and I haven't witnessed one. Thanks,
Kathleen

Re: San Francisco Pipers' Club Tionol- Registration Now Open
The piper's chair is an informal concert in which all attendees are encouraged to get up on stage, in front of everyone there and play a tune or two. The beginners are given roaring applause and encouragement, while the top pipers can be open to a wee bit of slagging. Lately, the slagging seems to have fallen off and replaced with politeness. Not as much fun IMHO. This gives everyone a chance to play solo in front of an audience, which some have never done before. It is all done in a spirit of fun and fellowship.
