Hear ye' hear ye', may I have your attention please?
Pat Sky will be working his magic on the reedmaking in support of the Tionol.
Cathy Sky will be conducting a workshop which will provide fiddlers with techniques and ornaments to help them find the “sweet spots” that make for tight pipe/fiddle duets, for example: back-stitching, cranning, delayed rolls, volume swells and stresses, elongated runs, shivers and slides. Bring a recording device and prepare to step outside the tunes temporarily, though we will use phrases from well-known tunes to plug in different techniques.
I'll have the registration page updated in the next couple of days and will post another notice here. -gary

Cathy Sky has been playing Irish style fiddle since 1979. Her first Irish music teacher was Patrick Sky, so her playing has always been colored by piping phrasing and technique. In 1981-1982 she clarified her fiddle voice while living in County Clare and taking lessons with Tony Linnane. During the 1990a she returned often to Ireland to research the Clare regional style of music, with particular attention to the older players, earning an MA in Folklore from UNC Chapel Hill in 1997. Together, Patrick and Cathy have given classes in Irish music history at Duke Adult Education, UNC Elderhostel and the University of Missouri, hosted slow jam and guested onstage at Augusta Heritage Irish Week, and taught beginning fiddle and pipes at the very first Catskills Irish Arts Week in 1995. As a fiddle/pipes duo they have appeared at many venues, including the Philadelphia Folk Festival, First Night Greenville, SC, the Raleigh History Museum Heritage series, and the NE Pipers Tionól. Cathy has been teaching Irish fiddle for 25 years both privately and in groups.

Hey Folks -
Now that St. Patrick's Day is over... why not come and learn some new tunes & share some old ones at the South East Tionol? Looks like the student / teacher ratio is going to be pretty good this year!
Who knows, maybe I'll bring my piper's stool.

Fantastic Tionol this year, Gary! It was great having Tom Creegan, Pat Sky, Sean Clohessy, Cathy Sky, Michael Cooney, Flo Fahy & Brian McNamara. Was nice to have Brian back to the South after so many years and in such great form. And the "act" at the end of the concert... holy crans! It was hilarious!
See everyone next year in Orlando!
