Tell us something.: I used to play pipes about 20 years ago and suddenly abducted by aliens.
Not sure why... but it's 2022 and I'm mysteriously baack...

Same here... I saw that website 2-3 years ago and I had NO IDEA that reed production involved acres and acres of cane fields. Staggering when you consider the numbers.
Great link Alan, thanks for posting it.

Here's another one I stumbled over in sardinia, http://space.tin.it/musica/seperra/
still trying to scrape up the dough to try the stuff, expensive but if he hand picks etc., it's possibly worth it.
At this rate we'll have more cane than you can shake a "stick" at

Cheers
Alan

(You've probably seen these all afore, so I'll make this the last one!)

Post away Alan... don't let our comments hinder you. These are great links and most people haven't seen them before.

As far as the second link... Pitano Perra, good friend, we had lunch on Tuesday!

I hope you know I'm joking... Happy holidays!

Ok a little math here. Please don't get bored .
I see : 1 good tube of cane = 4 good reeds .
1 stalk of cane= 8 good sections ,, 4x8= 32 reeds ,, stay with me ,,,,,,,,,,,,
50 stalks per bundle ,,,,,,,,, = 8x50 = 400 .
That is 32 reeds X 50 = 1600 .
50 bundles per the photo e.i. harvest here ,, . equals [ = ] 1000.
So . that is 1600.x 1000. = 160,000.00 reeds . Yeay !! " 50 bundles ". Thanks Alan B.
Tom K .
