Learning with Skype

Post by patsky »

Is there anyone on the list that has been using Skype video for lessons? I have some questions and would appreciate writing to me off line: patricksky@bellsouth.net

Thanks,

I think D'Arcy was offering lessons in piping or burlesque, I can't recall which. :P

Burlesque!
Give a man a wooden reed and he'll play in the driest of weather,
Teach a man to make a wooden reed,
and the both of ye will go insane!

Eternal peace, harmony and satisfaction in every facet of your being... not to mention the triplets, crans and tunes :)
is what Patrick D'Arcy offers in his skype lessons. I don't think it gets any better than that... If there's anybody that can deliver, it's him!

Thanks guys It looks like Skype is not that hard to use. I am going to try to put together a lessons/advice site that includes maintenance, reed making.

All the best,

Tell us something.: I’m changing my location to my actual address. My previous location was a reference to Joyce’s Finnegans Wake.

Hi Pat. I once used Skype for lessons and had to switch another alternative because the connection would drop out every few minutes. I later found out that Skype involves the transmission of very large packets of data and this data flow pattern looks very similar to what happens when people are swapping music files (99% of which is done illegally). So, in an effort to tamp down on piracy (perhaps in response to some legal injunction, or as a goodwill gesture to music industry partners), some Internet providers intentionally interrupt that type of dataflow. I share this with you (or anyone else reading this) to let you know that if you have this problem there are other alternatives.

and what would those alternatives be? I've got a couple friends from across the country that I'd like to be able to sit down on Skype with and play with or learn from.
Thanks

Someone's using Skype for Zen transmission. So you have to decide if mastering the UPs are more complex or less complex than becoming a Zen master.

Or like the rest of the Zen community has done, decide whether or not Zen studies via Skype is a Big (Mind) scam.
