Dave Williams C Sets

Post by Pipey »

Looking for information about Dave Williams (RIP) flat sets, particularly pitched in C. I know the larger body of his work was Concert pitch. Any information appreciated. Best to all.

I don't know of any C sets out there that Dave made. KenR would be the man to ask. Ken has a fine Bb set by Dave, I have a 1982 Bb chanter Dave made, based on measurements Dave took from the Egan set, that was later stolen from York Museum, in the late 1980's I believe.

Just to add - according to the SRS, York museum has an M. Egan "C" set in boxwood - "Excellent untouched condition". Now back then "C" could have been "Bb" in todays pitch which my chanter plays in. Flat chanters were described according to their length rather pitch back in the day. Dave told me that he had gone up to York to measure an Egan set there. I wonder if the set mentioned by SRS is another Egan set, or was the stolen set just misplaced, or was it recovered after it was stolen?
