Buying a new reed

Post by lundblad »

My reed in my S. Gallagher D-chanter is behaving very funny and have a real weak D. after trying and trying to get it in working order I don't see any other solution then cutting the lips, but, since this is the only reed I have to this chanter I don't want to do this before I've got a new working reed as backup.
Has anyone tried B. Howards reeds in a Gallagher chanter and if so how did it work?
The dollar is expensive so I was figuring getting a cheaper alternative than a Gallagher reed.
Does anyone have any other suggestion regarding chanter reed maker? I don't want to part with the chanter though.

The Sterling/Euro exchange rate is good at the moment. Why not get in touch with an English reedmaker?

Allan Moller Wales www.uilleannreeds.co.uk
Paddy O' Hare Belfast "madfortrad" on this forum
Brian Howard www.howardmusic.co.uk
