The Uilleann pipe world has lost a great craftsman. Our loss is overshadowed by the loss to his family and friends. Today I received a set he made in 1991. The detail and beauty of his work still shines even 17 years after he crafted it.

Alain's death

Post by Jack BRENNAN »

I was very sad to hear about the death of Alain. My sympathy to Alain's family and friends, I purchased a set from Alain in 1985 a blackwood and silvered brass set, and they are playing better than ever. Jack BRENNAN

Tragic, very sad news. I know that is a stupid question in this circumstances and agree with all of you that the life of a person is more important than his craft, but... Is there any heritage of his knowledge upon anybody, any apprentice of him? or have we a double kind of loss?

My apology in advance if this expressed thought bother somebody.
Thanks God for the opposite thumb.

Although I never met Alain I admired his work very much. That beautiful C set that he made of David Power is a testament to his craft and skill.

Condolences to his family.

Yes, I share the same sentiment as Pat. I have listened to the C set as played by David Power on so many occasion and hold some cherished recordings of the Froment Pipes in the hands of a Masterful Piper. The creation of an instrument leaves a legacy that has and will continue to bring joy and happiness to so many ears in this world for generations to come. It is as if the Pipes have a life of their own and we are just caretakers. I did not know Aliane Froment personally but am thankful for the life and legacy he has bestowed upon us all.

His family and friends can take great comfort in knowing this man has left an indelible footprint on this earth. To those that own his pipes, an aire is in order.

Sad news, indeed. I never had the honor to meet him in person. Those sparkling stainless-steel pipes shone across the pond in his stead was the next best thing. What an inspiration!

Thank you, Alain.
