Specs for Boxford machines here - does not look big enough to be much use in pipemaking other than small components such as mounts.

Does it include a tailstock? (Standard Boxford 160 doesn't seem to.)

Quite short travel - 125mm; possibly could be used for making partial-length reamers.

If looking for a small cnc lathe to play with then possibly Denford's 'Orac' would be better with 16" between centers.

Probably better if going cnc would be a S/H (ex school or college) training lathe such as Denford Easyturn or a Boxford TCL.

That's a cute little lathe! It looks like it's sold standard in chucker configuration, Bill. I don't see a tailstock either, but one is listed in Boxford accessories. Looks like the way cover would have to be removed in order to jury-rig one. As Bill & Chris have pointed out, center distance is a bit short. Boxford ad says they're sold w/o PC, but PC software is included. Apparently uses standard G & M code, and the literature mentions keying it in under MDI, but I don't see any numerical keypad, so all programming & editing is probably done on a PC.

Spindle bore will "pass" 20mm.
125mm Z axis travel.
125mm X axis travel...reduced to 70mm at axis slide.
140mm Distance between centers.
3000 rpm.
8 position turret. (optional)
