Post by litsj »

Dear Sirs
if anyone can help me acquire a case that will accommodate a full set of pipes I would be most grateful.
Thank you

I managed to get a 'blem' bass clarinet case from Musician's Friend for $70. Fits a half set with room to spare.

Tell us something.: Sets in D and B by Rogge and flute by Olwell, whistles by Burke and Goldie. I have been a member for a very long time here. Thanks for reading.

I had Cormac Cannon up to my festival recently.
He carries a full B set
in a modern style/shape fiddle case.

He's a frequent flyer, and tells me that airlines are used to seeing fiddle/violins come on board,

and added in to that he has a musician's union card

apparently the musician's union have brokered a deal whereby their members can carry instrument cases up to a certain size onto flights

Gun cases are a possibility but you may have to do a small amount of work to make them fit such as removing the 'egg case' foan lining and fitting a thin sheet of foam instead

They also arouse interest when you walk onto the airport concourse

Yes can vouch for that - on the recent trip to Sweden was whisked away to Area 'S' Gatwick where case was X-rayed and a similar proceedure at Arlanda both on arrival and departure. What was slightly worrying was that I was allowed straight through customs on my return to Gatwick without even a look at the case.

My sword case

A couple of years ago I made this case for a couple of my antique chinese weapons and I think it will work well for pipes as well.

Construction is MDF with pine bracing. The outside is immitation leather and the inside is black velvet with padding around the points of contact. The decoration on the outside is made of aluminium plate.

The internal standoffs (top and bottom) which hold the contents up away from the sides of the case, provide a custom-fit to the weapons and are made interchangable to fit different configurations.

I think when the day comes that I have a full set I will make a set of standoffs to fit them and reuse this case. Or maybe I will make a new one in the same style.

Pro-Tec viola cases work very well and are popular. They're a wee bit heavy but not as heavy as the custom-built wooden, ply, or MDF cases I've seen.

Here are a couple of cases I saw in Dublin Tionol 2008.

The left case is Leo Ricard's saxophone case. I do not know the right case.

This is Ronan Browne's case (Designed by BAM) but no idea what kind of case is this.

This was far the most popular case in Dublin. Again no idea what kind of case is this.

By far the most popular case in the rectory, fitted with handle for easy carrying.
