Any thoughts?

A forum about Uilleann (Irish) pipes and the surly people who play them.

Tell us something.: I used to play pipes about 20 years ago and suddenly abducted by aliens.

You're braver than me...
I saw that thing yesterday and wanted no part of it!!
I suspect their being made in Pakistan and will end up in the same catalogs as those non-tunable no name brass whistles, Shawms and medieval pipes.

Brave? I dunno, just curious. It looks pakistani to me, I've just never seen one like this. I wonder what kind of reed it has.

Probably the same (one octave) plastic reed found in the other mouth blown practice chanters.

Oh.. You can get a little more than one octave from those reeds. They just sound like a dying goose being strangled by a mouse.

There is a paragraph under the picture saying that the thing in question comes from thumpmusic.com. If you go to the site you will see the aforementioned device for $59.00 along with a myriad of other inexpensive and probably unplayable pipes presumably of pakistani origin including a full mini set of some kind for $39.00.

If the starting bid is the same as the retail, there is no incentive using eBay.

It would be interesting to see if this could be reeded with a traditional cane reed and played w/ bag and bellows. That would be an inexpensive way for a club to get started using it for loaner/rental to students.
