Crowley tutor?

Post by sturob »

Anyone have a copy of the Crowley tutor they'd be willing to . . . well, to copy?

I know it's long since out of print, but I'd love to see it.

Thanks,

Stuart

I have a nice copy of the 1974 reprint (of the 1936 original printing) complete with the separate fully chromatic fingering chart to high D#. It is interesting reading, starting with the usual basics, but then jumping into tunes at more of an intermediate level. It's only 32 pages total, 8 1/2 x 11" , but has a nice bunch of tunes with written regulator accompaniment.
I'd be happy to share. If more are interested, perhaps our own Mr. Darcy would like to scan it for his website? Or, Pat Sky might like to do one of his most excellent reprints?

That would be much appreciated. I've always been curious as to what is in it.

Dave Collins of the Southern California Uilleann Pipers Club sent me his copy of this tutor which I just finished scanning. It's now on my site at http://www.uilleannobsession.com/faq.html#crowley

The files are large so if you can wait to download please do that so I don't use up my alotted bandwidth :)

Enjoy!

If you open that thing in Acrobat and use the "Reduce File Size" command on it, you'll be able to get it down from 39MB to about 7.5MB with very little loss of quality.

Boss work, fellas. It's a neat book, rather unorthodox in ways which is nice to have around, a different perspective on things.

Hey, thanks for the work! That's interesting.

I'll come clean and say that one of the reasons I got interested in the Crowley tutor is that I'm waiting on delivery of a concert 3/4 set by Michael Hubbert, and I know the foundation of his design is his own Crowley set.

Tadhg Crowley learned the highland pipes first, and the uilleans second. It shows. A lot of his settings use highland gracings, and they fall very naturally under the fingers if you ever learned the other instrument
