I haven't met David, never mind knowing what he's like as a teacher. I only know him through his two CDs.
But my hunch is that anyone who plays like that has to be good at sharing the music. If you're within striking distance, go there and absorb it. That's how Séamus Ennis passed it on.
Anything more that you might pick up through more formal tuition should be regarded as a bonus.

Just put my check in the mail this morning. The pony express might make there before the Tionel.
Look out! A sizable contingent (excluding Baxter's I'm afraid) from the Salt Lake Piper's Club will be decending upon ye!
Actually, can we arrange for the SoCal club limo to pick us up at the airport?
I hope David is not too jet lagged when he arrives, although several pints of Guiness and a few whiskey's will most likely set him right!
Thanks to you folks for arranging all this. We're looking forward to meeting ya all.

Fel, that sounds grand. Although I must confess that I'm not much of a fisherman anymore, and I don't realy have an adequate fly-rod. But I'd love to check it out anyways, time permitting. Maybe we could combine surfing, piping and fly fishing all at once.
I did take David fly fishing last June after our Tionel here and we had a great time, I know he would love to go fishing. I imagine he is planning on taking in some fly fishing while in New Zealand.
See ya there!
John.

- Tell us something.: I've been playing the uilleann pipes, flute and whistle for about 18 years or so. I've been listening to Irish and Scottish traditional music for almost 40 years now.

There are pics on the Southern California Pipers Club site. It was a great time, David was in good form, albeit his tenor drone was acting up. He sang and played fiddle (mine and John). Thanks to Gabriel, Eileen, Larry, and the lads from behing the Zion Curtain. Legendary tales will be made about the craic on Saturday night.

For those of you fortunate enough to hear David's playing of the "Foxchase" in Seattle:
As presumptuous this many be;
That particular performance-to my ears is THE quintessesntial performance of that tune...BAR NONE!
This recording is "floating around" (as James Kelly says), and all I can say is seek it out!
(however, please don't email me for it
