Would anyone have notation for the beautiful tune, Dionna, played by John McSherry on this Youtube video?

Boring new agey rubbish I think. I don't like this kind of stuff. Sounds like a synthesizer being played, very Spillaneish. Still, each to her/his own

I wrote that the tune was rubbish, and sounds very new agey and Davey Spillanish in my opinion. I didn't say John's piping was rubbish, mind you I'm not a fan of John's style of piping either - different strokes for different pipers. I prefer the piping of Pat Mitchell, Mick Coyne, Johnny Doran, Mickey Dunne, Peter Laban, Mick O'Brien, Leo Rickard, Seamus Ennis, Jim Dowling to name a few.

Perhaps it's a traditional tune from another country?

Maybe someone with close links to John might be able to help. It would be interesting to know.

I always presumed it was a 'Doina' type of tune. But maybe, just maybe...................

I'm 'sort of' sorry for having stirred up the hornets nest by poking the bear a little..
But it just kills me that many folks here consider anything with a synth/pad &
any effect on a pipe to be "new agey" or whatever..

I like to think that the pipes shine through clearly in this style, and that people seem to actually enoy it immensely, and actually even pay to listen to it.

I don't get it
I mean, I do not like the ukulele much at all, but wouldn't consider calling it rubbish if someone combined it with Uilleann pipes...it's music for heavens sake?
I dunno, I spose the simple 'to each his own' appplies.

Mr. Steampacket did state it was not to his tastes and offered the disclaimer " each to her/his own" in his very first (and second i.e. "different strokes" etc... etc.) response to this topic.

I think the real issue was somebody not taking the time to read said post close enough or grok its meaning.

In any case, let the record show that Mr. Packet (among others) doesn't like it, but that other folk do. Nothing to get one's knickers in a twist, over.

Honestly? I don't believe there is any point. I mean, one man's gold is another's poop... we have our opinions and tastes. Why some feel the need to get hot over another's tastes (or lack therein) boggles the feck out of me.

maybe something like:
"KnickerTwistItis"
or "DebateStupidStuffItis"
or "MyOpinionReallyCountsItis"

According to Alan Ng's Irish tune site Doinna is a tune from the Breton tradition http://www.irishtune.info/tune/4116/

I just don't like the tune, I find it repetitive, and melodically uninteresting. I don't like the sound of the pipes here. It's not a matter of life or death thought, is it? I'm sure there are tunes I like that others can't stand. It would be boring if we all liked the exact same tunes, and had same sounding pipes
