Allow me to gush just a bit...

Post by Doc Jones »

I recently recieved a pre-owned 1/2 set by Kirk Lynch.

It is, without a doubt, the lovliest sounding/playing thing I've ever experienced. I was starting to wonder if I wanted to be an Uilleann piper. I ain't wonderin' any more!

Kudos to Kirk. :D

You sell those suckers, I'll personally come and set fire to my Cotter on your lawn...I'm STILL having seller's remorse about those pipes...those drones are to die for.

:D

Not to worry David,

I'm bonding in a big way. The drones really are wonderful.

Besides, it would be the height of folly to sell a set of pipes the Mrs. actually likes.

Indeed it would. Anything that improves the "wife faction" standing should be kept around.

Wait, I thought you improved the "wife action" like you improve the action on a reed...tighten the bridle.

Anywho, back to the pipes!

Tell us something.: I've been playing the uilleann pipes, flute and whistle for about 18 years or so. I've been listening to Irish and Scottish traditional music for almost 40 years now.

At the Pipers' Gathering last August, BC Childress had a beautiful B set in Kingwood. Here's a photo of it:

Image

The chanter (bottom right) was in ABW as, according to BC, the Kingwood was difficult to work with. Pity, as it's a gorgeous looking wood.

I resolve to be less romantic, and more of a classicist.  (musically speaking, of course!) :P

Yeah, great BChildress set.. I heard him playing it too.
