Somebody knows if Mr.Peter Hunter is taking order for a set of pipes?

Or somone has his set for sale? Seriously thinking of getting his set.

Peter Hunter is open for a challange... meaning, if you're serious

Hello,

I have a Peter Hunter chanter here in Japan.

It ia the best chanter have owned, but it hasn't been reeded for over four years.

My parent's neighbour in England is a Northumbrian pipe-maker and he knew Peter personally. He was a very difficult man to contact.

Yes I'm contacting Alan about the set right now,but it has an ivory
mounts on the drone end. Ivory of African and Indian Elephants can't be
imported to Japan.
It must be replaced to other materials to bring the set into Japan

By the way how does professional pipers with ivory on their sets travel
around the world? They can't enter some contries.

I just checked some WEB sites
Elephant ivory is listed on CITESⅠand can't be imported for commercial,business purpose.
But if the ivory was taken before CITES was concluded or for learning/academic purpose ,can be imported with the certificates of both
country.

I don't know well about these things. Any advices?

If you are unable to contact Peter Hunter, try Brian Howard. Peter's pipes are based on the Howard design. He had the sister set Howard made for Finbar Fury and used those for his template. I must say they were a great sounding set though, and Peter's not a bad piper either

It was my first chanter; I am very attached to it.
I still remember that fateful summer afternoon when I squeezed my first few notes out of it.

I would rather sell my own grandmother than say goodbye to that lump of lignum.

If you know any good reed-makers in Japan who could make it sing again, I might let you play it for ten minutes

I disagree, Peters pipes design were from many sources, I know for sure that Harrington and Coyne were a big influence, and if it were so, Hunter pipes would sound like B Howards stuff, and they don't. Peter used to offer Concert D, Narrow Bore D, C, B and Bb and even the fabled G (of Ronan Browne fame), so a 'template' is out of the question.... Though I do agree that Pete's a good piper...

Fair comment Alan but the sets in concert D I've heard did sound like Howard. I suppose reeding makes a difference as well.

With regard to the Concert D i know for a fact that peter measured the bore of his Howard chanter in great detail and even had it X-rayed to get a good view of the bore. I even tried some of his first experimental trials, and quite good they were too, if a little hard blown for my taste. Every pipe maker must start with some point of reference and Peters was Howard.

With regard to the B design, that came from a set that was on display in the Cliff Museum in Kieghley. There were no markings on it at all but was thought by experts to be either Coyne or Kenna and played beautifully, but they had great bundles of rushes up the regulator bores. I later bought a set in Ireland, which looks identical including the bundle of rushes! I wish I could Identify them properly though.
