Squaky synthetic drone quill
I have a drone that squaks when the pressure drops. It it were a reed one, I could just snap it to make it behave but it is a plastic one by Andreas Rogge and I would be obliged if someone could advise me how to correct it.

Switch to all cane reeds. Tone will be better and you will like the sound with the chanter.

Sounds, from your description, like the tongue could be too far open . You could try moving the bridle, if it has one, up a very small amount towards the open end of the tongue.... this should lower the tongue a little and should allow a reduction in the overall operating pressure range.
If, when you make the tongue to sit closer to the body of the reed, the drone stops under high pressure but no longer squalks at low pressure , then you may have closed the drone reed too far and will need move the bridle back down a tiny bit. Some experimenting with the tongue apperture should improve the situation.
Good luck.
Geoff.
PS; I'm with Ted on this.

Switch to all elder reeds and your tone will be best.

Thanks. I'll try those bridle adjustments before switching to natural quills.

Moving the bridle (binding) and closing the tongue a little has worked a treat.
Such relief! Much obliged for advice.
