Re: THE GREAT UILLEANN YOU-TUBE THREAD.
Sean McAloon in the 1960s
Famous around Belfast as a reedmaker and he also made some pipes (most notably the chanter that John McSherry favours for his playing). He was also a good piper and a couple of years ago NPU produced a CD of his recorded playing.
PS/ don't miss the other vintage stuff I posted on page 146.........a Willie Clancy interview and some Planxty piping from the 1970s

Re: THE GREAT UILLEANN YOU-TUBE THREAD.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQS-lrI_L9Q from our new band's first gig last Saturday.
I'm back from Tralee now, wasn't much trad music or uilleann pipers there, many people knew nothing about the pipes and I was even once asked if they are "the didgeridoo? You know that Australian instrument?". The only open session I found and went to was in a pub called "Joe's place". Tried contacting Dave Hegarty through NPU but the email came back, the address didn't work. I was working through the Listowel tionol and left the country just before Willie Clancy week - bad timing but at least we'll have our own festival here soon

The Chieftains The Year of the French March of the Mayomen, Uilleann Pipes Lament
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHH6scctUw8
The Year of the French was a mini-series produced by the Raidió Teilifís Éireann (the Irish equivalent of the BBC) in 1982. The soundtrack is not available on CD or Tape to my knowledge;only Vinyl.
Its a fantastic and rare Chieftains Album.
