I think there's maybe only 10 to 20 topics that have been posted between 100 and 500 times each. Just sayin'.

+1

:D How is the old back D doing, Pat? And what do you think of the merits of open vrs closed piping? And how's your back D these days?

Here's another question: who's stuck it out the longest in this godforsaken place and is still posting? For the dubious accomplishment hall of fame.

My back d is doing very well. The answer to the open vs closed debate is "yes," and I think maybe Boyd owns the dubious distinction of being the longest continuously active piper in this "online community."

Tell us something.: Sets in D and B by Rogge and flute by Olwell, whistles by Burke and Goldie. I have been a member for a very long time here. Thanks for reading.

Hmmm....A dubious honour, perhaps?
I wasn't sure if that might be a good thing or a bad thing, so I was keeping my head down.
(come back Uilliam and Peter)

I've spoken with more than one "dyed in the wool" real piper in Ireland
(ie never in an internet forum cos they're too busy being sh*t hot and back-stitching all their syncopated triplet runs in B minor)
and they refer to this bastion of internet uilleann piping info as "Pish & Piffle"

With enough seniority, does one eventually get to be a Moderator? :o

Or is there some other accolade or honour for surviving all the flame wars for so long?
We could work out some sort of award system for longevity.......

Hmmm....
5 years = A couple of bags of air captured in Ireland, in which to store your reeds?
6 years = A drop of mountain mist, or an ounce of midges?
(or "midgets" as Mick O'Brien called them)
7 years = Some green rushes cut from a bog in Connemara perhaps?
etc

Money would be good, of course, or air miles.

Obviously, seniority and experience aren't needed for the moderator position here... heh  ... a thick skin, however, and a certain inclination toward self abuse are.

Tell me, you aren't really interested in being a moderator are you?

That all fine when you're in Dublin, Cork, etc. and you have easy access to instructors, reedmakers, etc. However, if, like me, there are only 5 pipers within a 6 hour drive of where you live, a forum like this is often the only resource available, at least in the short term. For sure there is plenty of repetition and many posts which are entirely irrelevant (and I'm as guilty as anyone for that), but there is a core of valuable information that has served me well.

So thank you C&F, Dale and the moderators, for providing the uilleann pipe forum.

Tell us something.: I love uilleann pipes and I have become obsessed with them. But now the antispam software is just irritating the hell out of me so I am typing random crap to get past the minimum 100 character limit.

I second that! Thanks big Boss-men. I check this forum like 4935693465387456324653 times a day. there are the 5 pre-class checks, then the between class checks, the sometimes in class checks, the after class checks, the miscellaneous checks, the evening dinner checks, and the before bed checks.

then there's the times that I'm dreaming I'm on C&F. Usually it ends up that I've found a set, but I wake up in disappointment. haha.

But, I digress...

This forum is a well of information in the desert of opinions that may be false. Yes I know that everyone on here has there own views, but that's what makes it fun reading! :D

HAHA! You can't blame me for that... Ted Anderson is where I heard it.

Hands clean,

Patrick :)
