Matt Kiernan chanters
Matt Kiernan chanters
Are there any experts out there who can answer a query about Matt Kiernan - did he always, without exception, stamp his chanters with his name ?

I'm not an expert but I have one of his chanters in C (probably stained greenheart) and it's stamped twice with "M Kiernan" once above the C# tone hole and once below the E hole.
I understand that he made pipes from the early 1930's to the late 1970's which is a very long time. I doubt is anyone could say for certain whether, during all that time, he stamped all of the pipes he made.

I currently have the loan of one and it is stamped 3 times. Two as with PJ's and the third is between the F# and G.PJ wrote:I'm not an expert but I have one of his chanters in C (probably stained greenheart) and it's stamped twice with "M Kiernan" once above the C# tone hole and once below the E hole.

This one, I think, looks pretty unusual:mulosse wrote:

Does anyone by chance know more about this one?
I think PJ is quite right. I could imagine that every maker especially when starting up first sells a few sticks before stamping his products.
Cheers,
Hans
