A few days ago, my back D went entirely to hell. Instead of a nice, in-tune D, it now produces a horrible honking sound pitched somewhere between a B and a C. There doesn`t appear to be anything structurally wrong with the reed itself and indeed, it is a very well made reed (Cillian O Briain made it a few years back). There aren`t really any problems with any other notes in either octave (although I think the higher notes in the second octave may have flattened slightly), just the back D. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be most greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the reed is leaking - has there been a dramatic change in the weather. If there are no cracks look through the open end of the blades and see if you can see light shining through the sides. If so try closing the blades by gently squeezing the bridle.
Closing the blades will make the reed weaker and sharper.
