Ontario Pipers club anyone?

A forum about Uilleann (Irish) pipes and the surly people who play them.

Hey would you guys mind if a Yank joined ya from time to time? :D Don't know if I could make Toronto that often, but definitely could make it if you did a circuit rider and came to London once in awhile.

I'm in. Greg mentioned this to me last year sometime - I think the key is getting someone interested in organizing the gang. Weekends are good for me as well - too much happening during the weekdays. Could be a "one Saturday of every month" kind of a thing.

The Chris Langan weekend is definitely an annual event. There is a group who practise a few tunes for the event - they gather at the Tranzac club at Spadina and Bloor (Brunswick Ave). I believe there is also a "slow" session there bi-weekly? EDIT: [However they are not uilleann specific.] The Langan branch CCÉ is not a functioning group as I am aware, and we'd have to find out more about the executive/organizers before we could entertain the thought. Besides, is there some value involved with having this association? I have no experience with CCÉ so please take my last sentence as ignorant. I'd love to know if they provide value.

It'd be great to have a "C" session as well as the usual CP activities.

Cheers,
PR

Us Uills have more sense . I am a proud member of the Quebec club

We could call it the Upper Canada pipers club ''

I think a Feb meeting is a great Idea. I was thinking of holding it at 401 Richmond at Richmond and Spadina Perhaps a Wed evening?

Views anyone
Count me in too Steafan! I know I'm part of the Quebec clan, but I'm in Ontario from time to time, I'd gladly participate in any way. There's enough piper's in Ontario to generate quite a bit of interest. :D Great idea! We could even have an inter-club meetings as well?

Maybe establish who's at what stage, who's located where, who's looking for help (should be everyone or they're lying), who's willing to offer help, discuss resources and sharing. Surliness lessons all round for those who can't afford them. :D

Is there parking near there?

Perfect!!! I was planning a trip to the Big T.O. that weekend anyway!
It will be nice to see you again Steafan.

Hmm...what to do?

Those more experienced at such things could help others with basic pipe maintenance and reed tweaking - especially early on.

Another Piping club put together a checklist of sorts for various ornaments. Might be worth looking over - anybody have the link to that?

And what else to do?...
How 'bout playing some tunes together!!! :P

All the best,
Paul

Wonderful. As you know Steafan, count me in. Sunday, Feb 4 at 1:00. Diarized.

Also Steafan, should we have people bring their own armless chair? If 20 pipers turn up, I don't think you'll have enough chairs.

I have a portable stool. I'd suggest everyone bring something to sit on, or you'll be sitting on your case. Remember to bring recording devices too, so that excellent tune you are taught by whomever isn't forgotten 24 hours later.

Paul Reid: could you bring your camera and excellent photography skills (not to mention that C set) so that this historic event can be recorded for posterity?

Hey Greg - "Diarized"?? That sounds like a rather messy appointment. I'll definitely have to bring my camera now! And the magnificent KQ C 1/2 set.

I too have diarized. (Feel much better now too!)

Can people who are able to make it contact others not on the list and offer beds transport etc?
I have a room and floorspace in Courtice Ontario if that helps. Courtice is on the East side of Toronto near Oshawa.

There is also considerable discussion on the Quebec pipers club forum
