Re: Ebay Items
Does anybody know where the file came from/who built the 3D model?
If it's a really good file, and printed well, it could put incredibly inexpensive but functional chanters in the hands of many beginners, as long as there's a reedmaker somewhere who can successfully reed the things.

Hi Richard
I only know of 3 pipe makers doing 3D printing:-
Zexuan Qiao - when he gets back to China the P.akistani makers better look out.
Phil Westwell on early 3d printed chanter - the chanter design has evolved considerably since then. I have 2 of his chanters and am impatiently waiting for the Bb design to be finalised.
Kenny McNicholl who is well known here.

No, only budget chanters.john wrote:Does anyone sell full concert pitch 3D sets?
I haven't seen any mention of any pipemakers working on 3D-printed regulators yet.
Nor drones, for that matter. But it seems that drones should be fairly straightforward.

Re: Ebay Items
Maybe this has already been done but it just occurred to me that someone should be able to make a 3D printed assembly kit for mainstock and drones. Print the mainstock and all connecting parts, then just 'insert x length of y diameter hobby tubing here' and assemble the whole thing that way. Sockets and tenons on all drones, and the turns and puck on the bass drone should be fairly easy to CAD I would imagine.

The second-octave E is doing that growling thing.oleorezinator wrote: Brian Bigley

Many years ago I had a concert chanter that was amazing in that E in both octaves was exactly in tune (everything else being good too) but upper E would growl like that unless I began the note by gliding off the fingers, "venting" the note some call it. I couldn't just lift the two fingers and get a clean E no matter what pressure I tried. That habit of gliding E stuck with me after I got a different chanter.

Re: Ebay Items
I had the same problem with my 2nd octave E growling this summer. The same thing happened last summer though I'd never had the problem before. As both summers ended, so did my problem. I usually like the E's, nice tone for both, both are normally in tune. Other than both problems occurring during the summer months, the only other things in common were:
1. My house's heater was not working properly and it hardly came on, if at all both winters proceeding. The pipes were kept in my closet and I noticed the humidity in there became excessive during both winters - due to a lack of air circulation and little/no heat to dry the house's air in general. White mold appeared on some clothing and shoes for the first time ever, both seasons.
2. My second issue was that I made these problem reeds, and my reed making (as I see things) is still a matter of luck, more than earned or learned skill - no doubt it is still my problem. But these reeds seemed to work without issue the other half of the year. In years previous, reeds I have (no matter the maker) seemed to become sharper and harder to blow in the summer months, but were all still playable up to the high B, without too much bag pressure.
So in my case, I'm assuming that excessive moisture in the reed is my problem, but I don't know. My heater was repaired over the summer to I hope my problem will not return next summer. But I have yet to turn the heater on so far...
