Re: session.org
I'm not a moderator, but the only quibble I would have is that the url is incorrect.
The correct one is thesession.org

Re: session.org
Sorry, uilleannfinlander, I don't understand what you are saying. Did someone at TheSession object to posting a link to the Chiffboard?

Re: session.org
How very strange! No, we don't have that policy. People here, including myself, post links to TheSession all the time. And we consider Jeremy (owner of TheSession) to be an online colleague and friend.

Re: session.org
OP, I presume you are mikepipe on the Dunsire forums?
To explain the background, the Dunsire forum has a strongly enforced rule that you cannot share music to which you do not personally own the copyright. This includes traditional tunes, in order to avoid questions about authorship or settings. The reason for this rule is partly historical (legal threats etc, stretching back to Usenet times) and partly due to the fact that a lot more GHB music dates from the 20th century and is published. The rule is also applied to links to sites that host copyright material.
The specific incident referred to was an incident where the OP supplied a link to a specific tune which was (relatively) recently written and posted on the Session, and I think this was not the first time. Obviously people can and do have different ideas about copyright and how it should interact with traditional music and musicians, and the GHB and Irish traditional communities are slightly different in their approach (as a whole). However, this is the rule that that forum has chosen to impose and enforce and ultimately, their forum, their rules.

Re: session.org
yep, thougth first that if tune is strictly copyrighted then there will not be such ones at all.And if look "other pipes " section on same forum there was a big list gaita tunes with put .(http://www.larkcamp.com/LarkLibrary/Gaita/Gaita.html) and this with same forum without sensorchip.strange.
Re: session.org
Just because copyright is not enforced does not mean it does not exist. And the rule was deliberately formulated as stated: to avoid arguments over whether a composer had given permission or accepted that the piece was being shared.
The rule was occasionally applied with some flexibility where merited: I have linked to tunes on the Session on occasion, usually in a more "academic" context and this on the whole has not been an issue. The rule is also more loosely applied in the "other pipes" subforum as there is some recognition the situation there is slightly different and the historical issues don't exist.
