In an Irish language workshop at the recent Pittsburgh Irish Festival, we were told the Foras na Gaeilge has been busily coming up with Irish language versions of place names outside of Ireland.
And Pittsburgh is Baile Phitt, a rather literal rendering. I've seen Coill Phenn for Pennsylvania on forums but I don't think that's FnG-official.
So I guess the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team is Foghlaí mara Bhaile Phitt?
