Some have urged a forum of this type. We'll give it a shot. PM or email me if you have questions.

I think it is a great idea, it will clean a lot out of all the other boards.

I think prefixes on topic titles would be helpful, and should probably be required.

Re: This is an experiment.
Back when I worked at Sam Ash, we used to write POS right on the price tag of some instruments, mostly as a code to the salespeople. When customers asked, we could tell them it represented our POSitive attitude toward the instrument. That is, we really wanted to get rid of it.

Re: This is an experiment.
We're experimenting with a way to handle instruments sold (or offers met or withdrawn), and to expire older posts (currently 2 weeks). The "Sold and Old" sub-forum archive at the top here is part of this. Watch this space for further developments.

Is it moved to the subforum if the thread is still getting bumped, or only if there's been no posts for 2 weeks?MTGuru wrote:We're experimenting with a way to handle instruments sold (or offers met or withdrawn), and to expire older posts (currently 2 weeks). At this point, bumping your thread will save it from retirement and a gold watch.

Re: This is an experiment.
I'd suggest a further sub-division of this forum, to have a forum for those instruments which could be actively for sale or trade by C&F members, and to segregate all other offers, such as references to eBay, etc., to yet another forum.
That way, perhaps offers by C&F members could remain more prominent.

Re: This is an experiment.
Well, this forum is exclusively for direct member-to-member offers in the first place. So I'm not sure I understand the suggestion.

Adding that a "bump policy" to please everyone is tricky.MTGuru wrote:At this point, bumping your thread will save it from retirement and a gold watch.
A bump to renew an about-to-expire offer that is still active is probably fine.
A bump just to push an offer to the top of the list is probably not fine.
We'll see ...

Re: This is an experiment.
Now I'm confused, and let me refer to an 04 Feb '09 post by latticino, which refers to the eBay sale of a McGee flute, and which had been transferred from the Flute Forum to this very forum, which then brought me to the suggestion of separating C&F member offers from all other offers, to perhaps then give C&F member offers a greater prominence.MTGuru wrote:Well, this forum is exclusively for direct member-to-member offers in the first place. Re: This is an experiment.
Sounds fair to me. Maybe what would work well is to limit bumps to one a week or so unless it's to make a price adjustment. I hate to use my own FS thread as an example, but it IS still active and I'd definitely want the option to make it known that it's still active if it doesn't sell in a few more days.MTGuru wrote:Adding that a "bump policy" to please everyone is tricky.MTGuru wrote:At this point, bumping your thread will save it from retirement and a gold watch.

I'm sure we'll all learn to roll with the punches whatever comes of this experiment.
