Glenn Schultz D flute in ebony value?

Post by Flogging Jason »

Hello there folks!

An acquaintance of mine brought me this flute for inspection and opinion. As a whistle player I'm familiar with Glenn's Thin Weasels but have only been told his flutes were nice. It had been sitting unused for quite some time and I had to grease the corks and gave the bore a light oil treatment(with woodwind bore oil). The adhesive on the rings had also disintegrated so I gently(with fingernails) scraped off the old stuff and reapplied the rings with a very light coat of Goop(a clear silicone adhesive). As a whistle player and a smoker I found that she plays fairly easy and with excellent intonation and of course the tone got much better once I put a couple tunes through her.

Please don't scold me if I did anything wrong!

Anyway, her owner asked me to find out if someone would like to give her a new home. I'm not sure what Glenn's flutes are worth so I wanted to ask around here.

Once I get an idea of a fair price I'll see about listing it in the appropriate forum.

Thanks!!

Probably it is african blackwood, not ebony--which is a good thing. Unless there is a reason to think otherwise. Can you post pics?

When I owned The Irish Flute Store, they used to go for about $700 used as I recall.

Thanks Doc! The flute is still up for sale. I'm a little scatterbrained sometimes and I haven't renewed it in the FS Forum.
