Does anyone have an old Bb band flute that I could borrow?

Post by Casey Burns »

I would like to borrow a Bb band flute (higher in pitch than a D flute) from someone within the US.

I'm working on a project to derive a flute in A for Galician music, to play along with Gaitas in D (currently, the piccolo is used for that pitch).

Am looking for a Bb band flute (1 or more keys) to measure as a start. Its easy to stretch things out a half step. Not so easy to go a whole step from my G flute data.

I'd be happy to pay shipping both ways. Please PM me is you have such a flute and would be willing to loan it.

Thanks!

Would that be like a Bb piccolo? I have an 1860's boxwood Binyon simple-system Bb picc - one or two square keys (can't remember) if that's what you're after. It plays, though the pads are shot so you would have to plug the holes.

I have a 4 key that plays in B, is that close enough? It's in Spokane, so should be an easy mailer.

Tell us something.: Love playing trumpet and modern flute at church as well as Irish trad flute in a band. Been playing Irish trad and 18th century period music for about 15 years.
