SOLD: Perfect, Irreplaceable, Magical Olwell Boxwood Flute
SOLD: Perfect, Irreplaceable, Magical Olwell Boxwood Flute
Hi, it's me. I have held onto this flute through all flute sales over the years. It has that extra something special that cannot be described in words. Of all the (about 15) Olwells I owned at various times, this was the only one I kept. I tried to get more like it, but the ones I commissioned from Olwell didn't begin to approach this one. Miraculously, it is in better than new condition. The boxwood is glorious in appearance (figure, color and glow) and was never varnished, so it smells incredibly nice. It's a Nicholson model keyless D flute with no metal at all, which I think adds to the magical feel and playability. Everything about it is perfect. It comes in a padded case (the background in the photo). SOLD.

If this is anything like the all-rosewood Olwell Nicholson I got from Jessie lo these many years ago, someone got an amazing flute!

I hope whoever bought it will post a review/sound clip. I got an all-boxwood Olwell Rudall from Jessie some years ago that is also a fantastic instrument. I'd love to hear this Nicholson all-boxwood to be able to compare it.

I am just hoping that Jessie still has a flute to play. I have always enjoyed her presence here (not that it is a prerequisite).

I almost bought that flute myself, but the fact that the third flute section is crooked in the photo kind of turned me off at that price. For a perfect flute I do want that section inline with the others.

Well, Doug, things that are magical are seldom perfect by muggle standards....

Folks, my comments were just my poor attempt at being humorous. The first photo that Jessie presents is good in that the flutes pieces are inline with each other and about equally spaced. However, in the second photo the pieces are somewhat jumbled together and touching. Now my obsessive-compulsive disorder would never allow that to happen. Maybe Jessie was trying to appeal to two different personality types. Perfection appeals to me but not disorder.Tommy wrote:JessieK wrote:

And yet:
DELIGHT IN DISORDER.
Herrick
A SWEET disorder in the dress
Kindles in clothes a wantonness:
A lawn about the shoulders thrown
Into a fine distraction:
An erring lace which here and there
Enthrals the crimson stomacher:
A cuff neglectful, and thereby
Ribbons to flow confusedly:
A winning wave (deserving note)
In the tempestuous petticoat:
A careless shoe-string, in whose tie
I see a wild civility:
Do more bewitch me than when art
Is too precise in every part.
DELIGHT IN DISORDER.

In the land of the iron sausage
The torture never stops.

And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')
