How many C&Fers on Patrick Olwell's list?

Post by emmdee »

Hi all

I've just received an email update from Patrick today about my flute. I've been on his waiting list since early 2006, and I started wondering how many of us here on C&F are actually waiting for a flute from him. Do tell...

You might do that as a poll.....

Tell us something.: It is a beautiful day in the piedmont for playing a favorite boxwood simple-system flute. Is that enough typing to get to 100 characters?? Maybe not, just to make sure here is a bit more stuff from the keyboard ...

Been there, done that (6 keyed Pratten D, keyless Nicholson D, keyless Eb, C, and Bb flutes). The wait is long, but the reward is worth it!

I got on his list in 2007 for 4 keyed flutes, a Bb, C, D, and Eb. I am not sure I could handle opening a package with all four at once.... I might have a heart attack lol.

Is he really adding keys on his Bb flutes? As far as I know, I have his most recent Bb (#12) and he said he was definitely not offering a keyed model. That was back in January.

As far as I know he is. I was in his shop last summer trying that model out and he did put me down for a keyed Bb as per the original order. I'll have to ask him again, but given he makes a keyed C I don't think it's out of the question. Now if he can't do it with the foot keys then I'll probably go for a John Gallagher Bb instead.

"So what did the email say?? I got on the keyed list in 2007."

Basically, it said "about another year to wait" and included an updated price list.

Looks like his waiting list doesn't include too many C&F flute forum regulars, then. :)

I wouldn't necessarily jump to that conclusion. Perhaps people just can't be bothered to reply.

Yep, that had occurred to me. Funny, this being a "chat" forum, and all, but certainly not beyond the realm of possibility...

Tell us something.: in two words, Rudall & Rose. but since a minimum of 100 characters is required, I should list a number of makers I found extremely interesting… I don't even know how much are 100 characters...

13 months?!?!?!? Poor lamb :)

I've been waiting since early 2006 - I was expecting 6 or 7 years, so still on schedule...

I've been on the list for quite some time for a keyed rosewood Nicholson, not sure how many years, but quite a few. One fortunate thing with the wait being so long is that eight keys are available now.

There is an Olwell keyless (probably Nicholson) coming up on the Bay, later today, according to the seller (see thread) - I purchased my unkeyed Olwell Pratten from a lady in Cork who offered it on E-bay, 6 months old, paid a little more, worth every penny though to get such a good instrument
