CP: Steffen Gabriel wooden flutes | FS: Rudalls in D

Post by Gabriel »

I wouldn't have dreamt of doing this when I registered here back in 2005, but well...here it is :D

Steffen Gabriel - wooden flute maker

I am now taking orders for wooden flutes. At the moment I offer a flute in D. A low Bb flute, D flute with small holes and flutes with keys are under development and I hope to be able to offer them within this year.

My D flute is a design derived from an original made by Rudall & Rose. The bore is almost identical but I changed hole positions a bit for tuning. The embouchure hole is large and oval, offering a big and reedy tone.

Each flute comes with a tuning slide with either fully-lined or partially lined ("french style") headjoint. The headjoint also features a sturdy screw cork mechanism with an indicator pin. The flutes are delivered with a handmade padded soft case. Hand-stitched leather cases more sturdy are also available by special order.

At the moment, delivery time depends on wood choice: mopane and kingwood flutes are available within a few weeks, blackwood flutes take more time as I need to get appropiate supplies first, which is a bit difficult in europe at the moment (if you don't want to pay 100€ per billet).

I offer a "satisfaction guarantee". This means that if you don't like your flute, send it back within 30 days after receipt and receive your money back (minus shipping cost).

Please check my website for all about my flutes, including prices and how to order: www.gabrielflutes.com

Flutes available now
I currently have two mopane flutes in D available for immediate shipping. As they're kind-of prototypes to check if my design works (it does!), I am offering them for discounted prices:

#4, fully lined - 650€
#5, fully lined - 550€ (minor cosmetic issues, please send email for details and photos)

Both flutes play very nicely and I would not hesitate to play them on stage or in studio.

If you need more information, just drop me a line via my website (no PMs please, as it is against the commercial post guidelines)!

Thanks for reading, and best wishes,

Steffen Gabriel

Very cool. The flutes look great. Would love to order one sometime in the future, i.e. when I'm not flat broke.

Now, we need clips of you playing your own flutes ASAP! Looking forward to hearing them.

Best of luck,

jason

Since I'm not planning on being anywhere near Munster for quite some time, it'd be great if you could send one of your flutes on a tour. I know there are many pitfalls and headaches involved with a tour, but I'd sure love to try out your flute.

If you decide to do it, can be first in line? :D

Cheers,

jason

Yes, I will probably send one out for a tour sooner or later, perhaps from the next batch which is due to be finished in a few weeks. I'll let you all know when the tour starts...

Here's a quick 'n dirty clip from the cellar. I'm playing #4 there. I'll do a video next weekend.
