I've wondered about it too, but gave up the idea when I realised I'd be swamped with queries about what kind of light bulbs Matt Malloy uses.

In keeping with the technology, shouldn't wooden flutes be gas lamps?

A good idea Jon but it would never work I fear. If the bulb blew then most trad flute players would never fix it - We fear change!

You guys crack me up...
Seriously, there are a lot of Pakastani flutes sitting around in the C&F closets that could be put to good use! ( I know, I have one...)

I have a window that won't stay open. Maybe I should get one of these flutes for that. :D

I don't think it would be a "Dim" bulb, or a compact fluorescent bulb, maybe a bright halogen lamp, of couse that wouldn't go with the Pakistani flute design, which would be a night light...

Yep. We trad players would just plug up the socket and call the resulting dark "part of the tradition." ;-)

Lovely, Jon!

Actually, that's pretty cool! I think I'd like a silver(ish) Boehm flute lamp better than a timber flute. Great idea. Maybe I'll start prowling the pawn shops and garage sales...

Does Matt Molloy tongue his light bulbs?
