New Progressive Trad Tune

Post by Akiba »

Hi All,

I wrote this progressive trad tune last summer called Steely's Cut. Just recorded it and wanted to share it. Here's the link:

You like it? You hate it? What do you think?

Sweet! I like that a lot. Has a Grada-ish kind of vibe to it. Nice work!

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Thanks, Lorenzo. I definitely know it's not YOUR style--I think anything after 1940 or not on a 78 is not your style (which I applaud and support whole-heartedly). :D

I consider Brian Finnegan one of my teachers. He comes to the San Francisco Bay Area every 3 years or so to play with William Coulter which is when I see him, take lessons, hang out for a bit. He's in town now and I got to play this tune for him. It was a thrill, and he asked for a recording of it, so that's what this is.

Touché
I do enjoy the style of several modern players though: Conal O Grada, Harry Bradley, Catherine McEvoy, Desi Wilkinson, Frankie Gavin etc etc ;)

Thanks for the kind words, folks.

I was displeased with the sound quality of the recording, so I returned the mic and got a much better one. Here's a better sounding clip on Brenda Stubbard's, one time through:

These two tunes may make a good set....hmmm...

Beautiful playing as always and a great tune as well!
Have you composed any in the more traditional vein?
If so could you post them?

Love is not music. Music is the best.

If you look in my "Fluting Sound Clips" under my signature, you'll find two trad tunes, a reel and a jig, the Fox and McGoldie's, that I would say are I Trad.

Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated.
