Lovely. I'm a particular fan of the clip of the noisy curlew you posted earlier. Fantastic stuff.

Thank you for the warm words
Akiba, there's been irish music here for years! Make sure you tell me when you come so I can show you the relevant venues...
The flute is of a dear maker: Stéphane Morvan.

Re: Posting clips
In amongst the Xmas rush, I found a little time the other day to do these - two takes on two rather different flutes of the same Welsh air - The Rising Sun (transcribed and passed to me by my friend, harpist Ceri Owen Jones, from source material by Llewelyn Alaw in the National Library of Wales):
On a Rudall Carte & Co. Carte 1867 System (all covered holes) - an all-thinned Ebonite "unibody" flute made c 1939:
https://soundcloud.com/jem-hammond/the- ... -welsh-air
I'd kinda like to (but won't) re-do this one as, just picking it up without playing myself in to it, I have a tendency to blow the 2nd 8ve of the 1867 flat 'cos it doesn't need so much of that as the flutes I mostly play! Also, since making the clip I'm getting in more/better finger articulation on it now despite the fully covered key system - even some pseudo-portamento gracing!
And on Rudall & Rose 8-key simple system (open holes) in cocuswood, body made c1843, head made c 1831:
https://soundcloud.com/jem-hammond/the- ... elsh-air-1
It's the differences in what the systems let you do I'm interested in here rather than the tonal or intonation aspects, though those are of interest too. Not that this was intended as a serious comparative exercise. I started off wanting to show how good the 1867 sounds! I'm quite sure the intonation "misses" on it are primarily down to me and my lesser familiarity with its requirements, not to any internal tuning deficiencies of the flute. If I did a retake after some serious practice on the 1867, I reckon there'd be rather less noticeable differences. And the breathing would improve!
I was amazed how consistent my timing/pacing was between the two takes - only 2 seconds difference! Luck rather than judgement, I fear! BTW, so far as I recall, there was no tonguing or glottal stopping whatever on either flute. I have not yet learnt the tune properly and was playing "from the dots".
