Harmonica players
How many other harp players are there in here?
Im into Celtic & old time harp,,,, but seems like most people on other harmonica forums , are just all about blues.
Just wondering who was here

Re: Harmonica players
I'm certain when Steve Shaw wakes up, he will respond to this as well. There are a few of us lurking about. I play more Harmonica than I do anything else lately, though I'm playing Concertina too.
Of course, I'm FAR from one of the better players around.

Re: Harmonica players
Oi, I never sleep, I just visit relatives. Playing the harmonica and arguing with Christians is all I ever do. My website is still down but I'm hoping to reinstate it soon. There are quite a few threads already deep in the depths of this forum to which I've contributed. If you go here and click on "music downloads" you can hear me playing the diatonic harp in Irish (mostly) music.scheky wrote:I'm certain when Steve Shaw wakes up, he will respond to this as well. Re: Harmonica players
Hi, I'm Dan from Alabama. Like you, I love to hear, and play, Celtic and old-time American music on the harmonica. Although I admire the technical expertise of some blues players, I find most blues music a little monotonous and lacking in melody. I love experimenting with new harmonicas; I have played around with some harps in minor-tuning recently, and that has been fun. I also love learning new tunes, I'm always up for a new challenge. Got any good ones?

Steve, the Sailor & The Maid sounds like a good one, I'll have to look it up. Here are some of my favorite tunes to "toot" and the harmonicas I use to play them:
The Girl I Left Behind- G
Arkansas Traveller- C or D
Turkey in the Straw- G
Oh Susana- G
St. Anne's Reel- C or D
Fisher's Hornpipe- D
Whiskey Before Breakfast- C or D ( a real challenge!)

Hey SS, he's not only Christian......he's American! Probably time to move it to the other forum, and let the games begin!
Yes, though, lovely playing.

Re: Harmonica players
Hi. I play the harmonica. I'm one of the Christians Steve thinks he's arguing with. We take turns pretending like we're arguing with him so the others of us can pray for him.
I'm not into the blues thing either. I picked up the harmonica after my heart surgery for my breathing exercises. Then I picked up the whistle and irish flute and some other things when I needed some accidentals. Get this, I play the harmonica and all the other instruments in the folk group at my Catholic Church. I keep a harmonica in my pocket. Waiting in lines is not my favorite thing in the world but playing my harmonica while I wait is pretty fun.

Rose tint my world. Keep me safe from my trouble and pain.

That's the idea. I feel naked without a harmonica about my person.I keep a harmonica in my pocket. Waiting in lines is not my favorite thing in the world but playing my harmonica while I wait is pretty fun.

Re: Harmonica players
Well, Steve, I know that harmonica talk hasn't been the number one mainstay of this forum but we've still covered a lot of ground! Take a look at these threads:

Re: Harmonica players
Hello.
I am harp hack. I am not really into playing the blues, so I picked up some harmonica music books that were irish tines rewritten for harmonicas.
Fun stuff.

Re: Harmonica players
Re-written for Harmonica? Why in the heck would you need to do that? They play just fine the way they are (mostly).
Re: Harmonica players
The book by Glen Weiser takes out all the bending. No bending needed.
I suck at bending, so have a book filled with 110 irish and american fiddle tunes for harmonica with no bending made me smile.
Someday, I will learn how to bend and overblow with consistency. Until then...
