Post Clips Of Yourself Playing Your String Instrument

Post by Rob Sharer »

Allow me to kick it off thus:

Casey Comes Back / Gretchen's Wedding

The first tune features David DiGiuseppe doing the backing on his Stephen Owsley Smith bouzouki. Stick around for the second and you'll hear meself on 'tenor banjo' - it's a Framus plectrum, actually, tuned in 5ths and capoed at the third fret to get GDAE. It's a hoot at flat sessions with the capo off!

Lads, let's get some more contributions here!

Plenty of talk about string instruments, so let's hear some.

Great stuff, Rob! That's a killer CD, but I don't see a clip of Gretchen's Wedding out there.

BTW, I remember her as one of the prodigious 'Kohler kids' storming across central and western Massachusetts in the 80's. Took down many a fiddler at contests, they did.

My clip's in the works.....

Edited: Sorry, I just remembered that GW is velcroed onto the back of CCB. Great set!

I fear the baby's sleep schedule preempts
my recording proclivities at the moment. I
guess if you're desperate, you can see me
playing a bit of mando in this clip:

Here are three quickies. These are "one-takes", but you get the idea.....jack-of-all-trades, master of none.

I'll bite.

Here's an unfinished track that I did in the mid-90s - the unwashed mix and the rough edges are still there,
but, I think, you'll get the overall feeling.

I'm playing a 1921 Gibson Snakehead Mandolin into a pair of high-end Beyer mics.

Nice job! It's got that great breezy feel like some of the Dawg stuff from back in the day. Nice sound out of that old Snake, as well.

Hi. New to this forum. I am usually over on the flute forum. Just thought I would contribute two tunes I wrote. Playing is a little rough... I am not use to videotaping myself. Anyway, feedback welcome. just the straight up tunes, no variations.

Thanks. I was a little hesitant to post, but I thought why not? What's the worst that can happen? I get told to stay home and practice, which I do anyway. Thanks for listening. I know they're not brilliant tunes, but I like the pace and easy flow of them both.

I contributed a banjo track to Marc Gunn's
Hobbit drinking songs CD. You can hear a
rough mix here:

I just use the gizmo for backup playing, so I'm afraid I wouldn't have anything to offer. Do carry on, though. Hearin' some great suff, here. :)
