FS: Gliga fiddle, case, good bows, Kevin Burke DVDs & more

Post by buddhu »

Once again I find my instrument requirements changing. :(

Our session/singaround/jam thingy now has a fiddler, but our banjo player has had to stop coming. Thus I need a banjo, but can't afford one. Much as I enjoy fiddle, it is the instrument I play least (because, to tell the truth, I'm not that good at it), so I'm afraid it has drawn the short straw and is going to fund a tenor banjo. (Drat, shouldn't have sold my old one! Grr...)

So, I'm selling the following as a bundle:

Fiddle, case, 2 x bows, rosin, strings, shoulder rest, 4 x DVDs 2 x books with CDs.

Details below. Photos to follow.

Gliga Genial 1 fiddle. Due to my rubbish memory I'm not sure exactly how long ago I bought it - a couple of years, maybe. Current price new is £225 (see http://www.elidatrading.co.uk/gliga.htm, the store from which I bought it). It's in good condition, but the strings are beginning to get tired and don't sound as good as they did. No matter, I'm including a spare set of Dominants.

Also including two good bows.

1) An all-synthetic Incredibow. Amazing thing. Google them and read up. They are nearly indestructible. The synthetic hair is rot and mite proof and lasts many, many, many times longer than natural horse hair. The Incredibow is feather light and does not need to be tightened and loosened before and after play. Incredibows new are about £100, but not widely available in UK. This Incredibow is in very good condition. They are now used by many pro's, but the Incredibow is a brilliant bow for a beginner. I use it more than anything else.

2) A Codabow Diamond NX carbon fibre bow. I was selling this a while back but decided to hang onto it until I sold the fiddle. It's a good quality bow, easily good enough for a pro fiddler to use. The NX is about £275 - £300 new. This one's something over a year old and in excellent condition.

Also including Kevin Burke's excellent Irish fiddle tutorial DVDs, volume 1 and volume 2. Brilliant stuff, including sheet music with bowing guidance.

Also including Brian Wicklund's American Fiddle Method DVDs, volume 1 and volume 2. As a general learning resource for fiddle these are, IMHO, even better than the Burke DVDs. As well as bluegrass and old time, they include some Irish lessons.A real structured learning course by a brilliant teacher. The best tutorial course I have ever seen for ANY instrument.

Also one of Wicklund's books with CD.

Also including Paul McNevin's Irish fiddle book and CD.

Total value of all this bought new would be about £700. A complete package for anyone wanting to learn fiddle.

Asking £200 + £15 to cover insured postage within UK.

Sorry, no offers. This is absurdly cheap as it is.

As I have the offer of a banjo for a bit less than expected, I'm dropping price from £250 to £200 + £15 for insured, recorded postage in UK.
