I usually get our taxes done for Valentine's Day. I'm going to do them this weekend. Right now, it's no.

And the refund is already in the bank.
(Last year, Cali's wonderful gobermen spent more than money then they stole and had to give IOUs as refunds.
I said that I would't loan them any more this year.)

I have a child applying to colleges and the earliest financial aid deadline was Feb.1, so I had to scramble to get things done early this year. On the bright side, now it's all done: federal taxes and FAFSA and CSS Profile. Whew. Now we just sit back and wait for the acceptances and financial aid offers, and hope that the preferred college gives us a good aid package.

P.S. What does it say about me that I couldn't resist correcting the typo in the subject line? No, wait, I don't think I want to know . . .

It's fixed. I feel better now. In unrelated news, since Christmas I have had torn ligaments and a cyst in my left knee, pneumonia (I seem to be recovering) and I'm still stuck with a sinus infection. All of the pain medication for so long has limited my higher level brain functions. Like I needed that.

I have all the tax letters together in a pile on top of the filing cabinet in my work room. Most of them I haven't opened yet. I have been pretending that I don't even see them. My wife has already told me that she wants her refund ASAP. She has a whole list of things that we don't need, like new counter tops in the kitchen. She told me the other day, "Look at them, they're pink". They look a perfectly normal gray color to me. They will probably last longer than I will. Anyway, when I get in the mood, I will go over to the library and get some paper forms. I like to fill out the paper forms first and then go to one of the free tax preparation sites online.

Nope. Not until I get all the 1099INTs. Ain't no way in hell I'm doing WORK (in the form of going back over my online bank account for the past year) so I can pay taxes on my three bucks' worth of interest or whatever it is.

(does anyone else get a federal 1099G that tells how much your refund was last year? I've had people tell me they've gotten them, but I never have... i'm stuck scrambling back through the old records hoping I can find it.)
