Easter Dinner, what will you be having?

Post by mutepointe »

Family will not be visiting this year so we have more freedom to go non-traditional. I still haven't decided. What will you be having?

I mistakenly put some beans on to soak Thursday night, forgetting that we were going to a Passover Seder last night. We're having company tonight, so I'll be doing a sort of modified tamale pie. A base of homemade polenta, a layer of beans (haven't decided between mashed or whole), and a layer of cheese, all baked. Toppings of avacodo (possibly guacamole), sour cream, homemade salsa, lettuce, tomato, cilantro, chiles, etc.

Pasta Primavera
Roasted asparagus spears
Whole grain dinner rolls with Irish butter
Fresh spinach salad with homemade buttermilk dressing
Mixed berry crisp with French vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce
The best, most oakey, chardonnay I can find.

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Full Christmas dinner:

Turkey
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Gravy (SO told me to say "lashings thereof")
Bread sauce
Parsnips
Carrots
Mushy peas
Roast potatoes
Cranberry sauce
(No sprouts as not in season, so maybe cabbage instead)
... oh, and Sludgy Goo, in case any vegetarians are present (a family dish consisting of mashed potato with things in, like raost peppers, onions, mushrooms, courgettes and cheese, all in a puff pastry case)

Christmas Pudding
Rum sauce
Clotted cream

Haven't decided on the wine yet ...

I'll be having whatever's left in the fridge when I come back from Brighton. Cold pizza, most likely.
Mr Husband is keeping his dad company while mother-in-law is on a well deserved four-day break, so I'll be spending Easter Sunday playing accordion with a friend.

My wife invited her whole family and their kids and friends for Easter dinner. We are expecting about 20 people. We are having a fairly traditional dinner, I think: baked ham, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, cheese dish, tossed green salad, pickled cucumbers and peppers, home-made dinner rolls, rye bread from the Jewish deli, strawberries with scones and whipped cream, iced tea and coffee.

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

I'll be going to a potluck with all the aunts, uncles and cousins from my mom's side of the family so what I have will depend on what everyone is bringing. Past experience tells me there will be salads, finger foods, baked squares of all kinds and I know my mom is baking a ham. There will be about 25 - 30 people so we should have quite a variety. These events are always a blast so I'm really looking forward to tomorrow!

Venison, a big honking haunch of venison, decided this year it would be Bambi not Thumper. Some years we have both and Mary's little rack of lamb.

Today we are having lasagna. We had some Ricotta cheese that needed to get used up. It's been awhile since I've rolled out egg noodles. Hope it turns out.

Maybe next year I'll plan ahead and make the traditional Easter s'mores.
